Distraction theft of bank card and PIN at parking payment machines - RADLETT |

Dear Resident,
PARKING MACHINE DISTRACTION SCAM
This message is to make you aware that on Thursday the 28th of January, I have had a report of a scam technique being used in RADLETT. The offender has targeted an elderly female, telling her to register her car at the parking payment machine. He told her to put her bank card into the machine and enter her pin number, even though the machine does no request a PIN no. He watched her put her pin number into the machine, then distracted her, before taking her card and walking away. The victim was left waiting for her card thinking it was stuck in the machine.
the local traffic warden helped the elderly lady by phoning her bank and stopped her card just as the offender was attempting to withdraw money from a cash machine outside Tesco, so this was prevented.
It is thought further, separate, attempts took place in BUSHEY and RADLETT. However the victims have yet to come forward and this was a third-party report. Therefore, please can we urge any victims to come forward with dates, times and descriptions so that we can investigate these crimes.
